This post is all about simple coffee table decor that will help you get that perfect look for less.
BEST SIMPLE COFFEE TABLE DECOR:
Coffee Tables
You can’t have the coffee table decor without a coffee table! This is going to make or break your space because it typically is the focal point of your room. There are so many options in sizes and materials, but the most important thing is that you choose a coffee table that fits your room the best.
Here’s how I’ve always heard how to choose your size:
Height: 1-2 inches shorter than your couch
Width: two-thirds the width of your couch
Distance from Couch: at least 12 inches
Coffee Table Books
This is easily my favorite way to decorate a coffee table (or a nightstand, or shelves, or my kitchen counters…). I just love coffee table books. The key is finding minimal and neutral books so they can be used throughout every season of the year.
Another great way to incorporate books into your simple coffee table decor is through heirloom photo albums. Whether it is engagement photos, wedding photos, or your favorite photos from the past year, you can put that investment piece to good use and display it on your coffee table.

Fake Plants
Fake plants, whether they be fake greenery or artificial flowers, are my top tip to incorporate more texture or color into your simple coffee table decor ideas. I have these white roses in a glass vase on my coffee table and I love how elegant they make my living room look in such a simple way.
DIY this if possible so you can keep your coffee table decor cohesive with the season or any design changes you make. Get a clear glass vase that you like and some artificial flowers that you can rotate throughout the year!
Candles
The easiest decor piece to add to your coffee table! Candles are those things that “complete” the space you are designing. Plus, there is nothing better than a cozy night on the couch with a lit candle so having one easily accessible is key! I have this Capri Blue candle sitting on one of my built-in shelves and it smells absolutely amazing. Sometimes, candles are a bit of an investment, but they last a while and a good-smelling candle truly makes a difference. If you are looking for more affordable candles, I recommend shopping at TJMaxx or HomeGoods. Make sure you have a lighter on hand!
Trays
Using a tray helps you bring all of your simple coffee table decor together in a contained way. I like using one to hold my artificial flowers in a vase and coasters so it doesn’t feel like I have a ton of stuff just sitting on my coffee table. Another plus size to trays is that they make it easy to quickly clear off your coffee table in case you are setting out food for entertaining or using it as a workspace! This is such a relatively cheap decor idea and you are bound to find the perfect fit for your style.
Wooden Accent Pieces
Wooden accents are definitely a more trendy option for coffee table decor at the moment. I feel like I’m seeing them more and more all over my Pinterest – and for good reason! Whether you place them in a bowl or on top of your coffee table book, these decor pieces can bring really good texture and contrast into your living room.
Bowls
If you have a larger coffee table, this simple coffee table decor piece is going to be your best friend. It is the perfect way to fill in the space and gives you the freedom to fill it with some really fun decor. I love how wooden beads look draped in a bowl or you can get some bowl fillers. There are so many different options for these, and it is super fun to switch them out throughout the year. For example, you could get little white pumpkins for the fall, or cute hearts for Valentine’s Day.
Coasters
If you’re anything like me, then you hate the possibility of rings being left on your furniture from drink glasses. Obviously, the best way to avoid this is through coasters, but did you know that you can use these as a practical coffee table decor piece as well? I keep my coasters in a tray on my coffee table so that they are easily accessible and they’re white marble so they match my living room decor perfectly.

Candle Holders
There’s just something about candle holders that just make my coffee table look and feel more expensive than it actually is. My personal preference is to leave them empty without any candles in them (I don’t love how tall they become when I add them), but you can definitely find some neutral candles or colored candles to match your other decor. I think it’s also fun to switch out the colors based on the season or your holiday decor!
Matches + Candle Snuffers
When I saw this idea on Pinterest, I immediately fell in love because I have been trying to incorporate more vintage and unique pieces into my living room decor. If you have a candle on your coffee table, lay out some tools beside it! You can find them on Amazon, but it would be so unique (and fun) to go to a vintage store to thrift these pieces, especially if you are apartment decorating on a budget. They’ll be one of a kind in your home and have a story that brings character to your coffee table decor.
